<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>But for them, risking their lives is a normal, everyday thing.</b></span></div>

</b></span><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br style="background-color: white; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; text-align: start;" /></span>
<b><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Mudflap:</span></b><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Born the baby of the family, Mudflap has always had something to prove to emerge out of the shadows of his older siblings. He spent eight years as a Special Ops elite sniper and is now a firefighter. But at his heart, he’s just a normal West Texas good old boy who loves his beer, women and football, until the Department of Defense calls him up to say they need his skills again.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Shanae:</span></b><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Shanae is a first responder of a different sort. She’s a trauma nurse who works on a medical evacuation helicopter team. But while she lives a life full of adrenaline every day, it’s just a cover for her real life, where she hides in the shadows and is secret agent, Shadowfox for the Lubbock Foxtrot Team (LiFT). She’s living the kind of life that most people think exists only in movies and books.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br style="background-color: white; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; text-align: start;" /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Working for two different branches of the government, Mudflap and Shanae are in a race against time and the terrorists who threaten the very heart of West Texas life, football. They’re working toward the same goal, but find themselves in a confrontation against each other and the lies they’ve each had to hide behind. Can love win out in the end or will the cost be each other and their very lives?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First responders are heroes every day, but this story tells the tale of when they become even more and find love along the way. The key is for them to stay alive so that they can complete their mission and just maybe live happily ever after.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">On an ordinary day, they save lives. On an extraordinary day, they save the country.</span></b></div>

<i style="background-color: white; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">A woman without a past...</i></div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"></span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">After a tragic accident left her with no memory, Kate Alexander struggled to fit in with a husband and world that didn't feel right. She's had no reason to question what friends and family have told her, not until her husband is suddenly killed and she finds a photo of a young girl in his office. A girl who can't be anyone but a daughter Kate didn't know she had.</span></div>

</i><span style="background-color: white; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><div style="text-align: center;">
Ryan Harrison lost his wife in a plane crash five years ago. To cope with the pain of her loss, he dedicated himself to his job and to raising their daughter. Now a successful pharmaceutical executive, Ryan has everything a man could want--money, fame and power--but he'd give it all up in a heartbeat for just one more day with the woman he still loves.</div>

</i><span style="background-color: white; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><div style="text-align: center;">
As Kate begins to dig into a past she doesn't remember, evidence leads her to San Francisco and puts her on the path toward Ryan, a man who sees in her the woman he loved and lost. Kate feels a draw to Ryan, one she can't explain, but is that feeling enough to convince her this is where she's supposed to be? As Ryan and Kate search for answers, they uncover lies long buried, a passion hotter than either expected and a danger that threatens...even now...when the second chance they've both been searching for is finally within reach.</div>

<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">So, I hope you all have read, If I Were You by Lisa Renee Jones. So good right?!</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I could not put this book down, I am obsessed and cannot wait for the next one.</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">But first, let's get to some nitty gritty questions</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><b>1. What do you think happened to Rebecca?</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><b>2. If you found a journal, would you read it?</b></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><b>3. Who do you think the man is, in her journals?</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><b>4. Sara, has an art degree, but is a teacher. Grew up with money (her dad only drove Porche 911), but has never traveled. What is her story?</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><b>5. Why would Sara get hired on the spot?</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><b>6. Who is the creepy dude, that is always at the storage facility?</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><b>7. Do you find that there are a lot of similarities between Sara and Rebecca? Do you think there is some kind of relation? Coincidences rarely happen in books.</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><b>8. Do you think Chris and Mark were friends before? What do you think happened?</b></span></div>

Has anyone read the book yet? I'm half way through it! I'm finding it really interesting so far, just not having a lot of solid reading time! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Daughter-Smoke-Bone-ebook/dp/B004QX076Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1360984988&sr=1-1&keywords=daughter+of+smoke+and+bone"><img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51DHX8OfKDL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA278_PIkin4,BottomRight,-65,22_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since I'm not quite finished yet, I'm going to start off easy!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">1. What do you think of the world building? The book, at least the modern day world, is set in Prague. I find this such a romantic setting. You don't see a lot of books in this part of the world! If you could live anywhere else, EXCLUDING any of the 50 states, where would it be??</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">2. The Chimaera. They are pretty cool, right? From the author page:<span style="background-color: white;"> <b style="border: 0px; color: #3a3a3a; line-height: 21px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Chimaera </b><span style="color: #3a3a3a; line-height: 21px;">are beings from </span><a href="http://daughterofsmokeandbone.wikia.com/wiki/Eretz" style="border: 0px; color: #00ffed; line-height: 21px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: initial; vertical-align: baseline;" title="Eretz">Eretz</a><span style="color: #3a3a3a; line-height: 21px;"> that are composed of a mixture of animal and human body parts. "Chimaera" is actually a blanket term that refers to a numerous amount of separate </span><a href="http://daughterofsmokeandbone.wikia.com/wiki/Chimaera_Races" style="border: 0px; color: #00ffed; line-height: 21px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: initial; vertical-align: baseline;" title="Chimaera Races">races and tribes</a><span style="color: #3a3a3a; line-height: 21px;"> that have been united for centuries under a single cause - the war against the </span><a class="mw-redirect" href="http://daughterofsmokeandbone.wikia.com/wiki/Seraphim" style="border: 0px; color: #00ffed; line-height: 21px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: initial; vertical-align: baseline;" title="Seraphim">seraphim</a><span style="color: #3a3a3a; line-height: 21px;">. I loved that this book wasn't about vampires, wherewolves, or horny teenagers looking for their soulmate. At this point in my reading state, I needed something DIFFERENT and the Chimaera really scratched that itch!</span></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #3a3a3a; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">When they described Karou's sketches, all the odd characters that HAD to be cartoons, and FICTION, and then we met in real life? Was totally awesome. They really had life and stories. What did you think of this twist on the paranormal?</span></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Discussion 1</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Part of what I like about Alex Craft is how real she seems.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yes, ok she lives in this alternate universe with all this other stuff going on</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
but other than that I felt like she's someone I could be friends with or have a conversation with.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I loved that she has all these flaws and vulnerabilities even though she's this badass chick.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
How do you think the author handled her development?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Did you like her? hate her?</div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Now, let's start the discussion!! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">"What compels any of us to do the things we do when deep down a part of us just wants to break free from it all." </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a quote from Camryn in the very beginning of the book. She is pondering what she is doing with her life and why. Wondering why people fall into routines of going through the same motions day to day, becoming comfortable in what they know. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She turns to her best friend and poses the question... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>"Have you ever wondered what it would be like to backpack across the world?"</strong></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
{to which her friend replied.. "You're starting to freak me out.."} </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What are YOUR thoughts on this premise?</span></strong> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Have you ever wondered why we continue with the ho hum of life when there is so much OUT there.. so much change to be discovered right around the corner, if only we break the cycle of daily routine? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>Have YOU personally done what Camryn did?</strong></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Decided one day... that's IT. I'm out of here... and found yourself on an adventure that was unscripted, unplanned, with no real destination in mind? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Do you think that people can truly "live" that way? With no ties to a certain place.. drifting along through life, taking it as it comes? Is that a path that can be continued on for more than a short period of time? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">How does this lend to the direction the story will take?</span></strong> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Hi friends! Don't forget to pick up your copy of Hunting Season by Shelly Laurenston for November! We will start discussion questions on Nov 15! <br />
<br />
Here's the description of the book from <a href="http://www.shellylaurenston.com/huntingseason.php">Shelly Laurenston's website</a>:<br />
<br />
<div style="background-color: #fdf4dd; font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
Neecy Lawrence, winged warrior for a Viking Goddess, doesn't know what to do with a nice guy. Most days she's barely polite, much less nice. But Raven leader and loyal Odin warrior, Will Yager, isn't just nice. He's gorgeous, hot, and determined to have Neecy in his bed and his life until Ragnarok comes.</div>
<div style="background-color: #fdf4dd; font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
It's just too bad Neecy is the most difficult woman Yager has ever known. Second in command to The Crows, a violent band of rowdy warrior women, Neecy's only concerns are keeping her "girls" safe and making up for a past she can't outrun. As far as she's concerned, Yager is nothing but a distraction she can't afford to deal with.</div>
<div style="background-color: #fdf4dd; font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
But Yager wants Neecy. In fact, he's wanted her for a long time. Not just for a night, but forever. And like any self-respecting Viking, Yager will risk everything to get the one woman who makes his warrior life more than worth it.</div>
<div>

Neecy Lawrence, winged warrior for a Viking goddess and second-in-command of the fierce Crows, doesn’t know what to do with a nice guy. As it is, making up for a past she’d sooner forget leaves her barely polite most days. But Raven leader and loyal Odin warrior, Will Yager, isn’t just <em style="border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 0px; font-style: italic; font-weight: normal; font: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">nice</em>. He’s gorgeous, hot, and a distraction she simply can’t afford.</div>
<div id="yui_3_7_2_1_1351516957403_1339" style="border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 0px; font: inherit; margin-bottom: 8px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 8px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;">
Yager has wanted Neecy in his life—and in his bed—for a long time. Not just for a night, but forever. And, like any self-respecting Viking, he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants. So what if she’s the most difficult, complex, never-gives-him-a-break woman he’s ever known? She’s more than worth the effort. In fact, she’s worth <em style="border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 0px; font-style: italic; font-weight: normal; font: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">everything</em>.</div>
<div id="yui_3_7_2_1_1351516957403_1341" style="border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 0px; font: inherit; margin-bottom: 8px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 8px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
And if it turns out that twenty-four hours of non-stop, any-way-she-wants-it sex doesn’t work with Neecy? Then it looks like he’ll just have to get a little more creative…</div>

Hello Chicks!!! It's October 15th which means it's time for our October book discussion. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This month our book is an erotic romantic suspense....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><i><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Spy-Games-Trained-Seduction-ebook/dp/B008UCKU96/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1350307556&sr=8-3&keywords=mia+downing">Spy Games: Trained for Seduction</a></i></b> by Mia Downing</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been very lucky to get to know Mia via email since I read this book. She's incredibly sweet and agreed to do an interview for us this month, so I thought that would be a good way to start off the month's discussion. Keep reading too, because at the end, Mia has a discussion question to ask you all about the book this month. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">For everyone that comments, you will be added into a drawing for an e-book version of book #2 in this series...<b><i><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Spy-Games-Lethal-Limits-ebook/dp/B009LTBZXM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1350307757&sr=8-5&keywords=mia+downing">Spy Games: Lethal Limits</a></i></b></span></div>

You already know I am a HUGE fan of the book. I know that Mia Downing is a pseudonym. Is there a story behind where the name came from?</span></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Thank you so much for having me, Christi and Chicks, and thank you so much for reading Spy Games: Trained for Seduction this month! I’m very flattered and I hope you enjoyed reading it. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Actually, yes, there’s a story behind my name, but it’s fairly simple. My editor, Diana Carlile, named me. We had discussed pen names, and she said, “I know what will be perfect for you!” And I agreed because I had used my one pen name idea for editing. Since Diana ‘names’ all of my books, it makes sense she would name me, too. Trained For Seduction (TFS, it’s easier) went under the working name of Undercover Lovers. Lethal Limits (Jake’s book) was sent in as Jake, and all of my books go in as the hero’s name. Yes, I’m a brat, but I’m also realistic. I suck at titles, and she’s not going to like whatever I name it anyway. So we brainstorm, I hate everything and she cajoles me into believing it will be a great title and I’ll love it (and she’s always right, damn her. LOL) </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">How long have you been writing in general? Writing erotica? Writing suspense?</span></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b>In general… My first book was a sequel I wrote in 4</b></span><span style="font: 7.3px 'Times New Roman'; letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b>th</b></span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b> grade to Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH because I didn’t like the ending. I won a bus trip to Boston to see the Alexander the Great exhibit at the art gallery with an essay written when I was in 7</b></span><span style="font: 7.3px 'Times New Roman'; letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b>th</b></span><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b> grade. </b></span></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Writing erotica…I had done the contest scene with contemporary and historical romances and did well, but went into technical writing to make some money. I have many, many ghost written books, articles and blog posts floating out there. I think that helped me learn to be concise with word choices. I started editing erotic romance after burning out of technical writing. It just seemed smart to write a genre I loved to read and edit. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I love being able to use a sex scene to build conflict or show character development. For example, Chase was so much fun in this book because I got to show how his conflict was affecting him. As Kate’s mission grew closer, his need for dominance and control filtered into the bedroom. On Kate’s side, it was interesting to show how she began to see these changes in him and how she realized she’d need to accept the boss side of him as well as the man if she wanted to remain in his life. It was her choice. She could have walked out, but she chose instead to go the extra step. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Suspense…I don’t know if you can really say I write suspense, not like some of the big authors. I dabble in it, because I like books to be interesting and I think the missions in each book show character growth. Kate was stronger than she thought she’d be. In Jake’s book, Tia’s mission shows her how a life without limits can be lethal. And Charlotte’s mission just sets everything on edge. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><br /></span></b></span></div>

<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">How did you get started writing?<b> </b></span></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I started writing my first book, a historical, when I was in college. I did so much research I could grow cotton in my back yard if I wanted. The book went on to final in some contests after I learned a lot more. I did the writing contests when I started writing romance in 2000, and always got split results. Judges either cried or hated me. I grew a thicker skin and decided it was a good thing to draw either response. If everyone thought, “eh, that was good,” I wasn’t destined to write. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I started writing again in 2000 when my son was born. I had been diagnosed with Lupus since 1997 and found I really needed a rest period to make it through the day. So when my son napped, I started writing. It was more noble than watching soaps (which is a huge guilty pleasure. I love Young and the Restless!) I wrote during nap times and after they went to bed. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">On January 1, 2012 I decided I was going to finish the book I had started (<i><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Exceeding-Boundaries-ebook/dp/B008GWRC32/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1350308266&sr=1-1&keywords=mia+downing">Exceeding Boundaries</a></i>.) I have, since that day, written 3 full length novels, 2 longer novellas, 2 short novellas and I have a new one started (30K in.) A full-length book is about 80-100K words, just so you guys can get an idea of how much I’ve written. The total approximate word count is 474,000 words. And yes, I work part time in a few different jobs. My house has dust elephants and we all live out of laundry baskets, but they’re very proud of me. </span></b></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Where did the idea for this series come from?</span></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">My husband snores, so I would lay awake at night and my favorite sleep story was Kate, Chase, and Jake (they all had different names though, I have no clue what they were. LOL) It was sort of a Six Million Dollar Man scenario, with Kate and Jake being more like Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers (yes, I’m old.) Usually, Kate ended up with Jake, and Chase was just the boss and older, sort of the Oscar Goldman figure, but it didn’t work for me. One night Chase became younger, and I wondered why that couldn’t work? So basically, the story was written in my head before I went to the computer. It took a month to write it, and two more weeks to layer in an additional 40,000 words after I wrote Jake’s book. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">

<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Kate is “crazy-smart” and an expert at bomb making. Do you share these traits with her? If not, how much research did you have to do about bomb-making and to come up with the phrases she uses to get Chase hot?</span></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Actually DH is the bomb maker and gun slinger of the family though I have shot the shotgun a few times. So I learned to hide it, just as Kate learned to hide her smarts. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">The phrases for Chase’s smart fetish were actually fun to research. The idea for her weight triggered bomb was actually in a news article I had read, and I adapted the technology to work for my story.</span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I loved the idea that Chase, as gorgeous as he is, didn’t love her for her looks even when she was less attractive as Emma. Right from square one he was drawn to her brains, which says a lot about him, I think. It sort of reminded me of how excited Gomez Adams got when Morticia would speak French to him. Who doesn’t love a quirk like that? It made Chase different and fun, and it gave Kate a way to best him at times. As dominant as he is, it’s nice to know he has a weakness. </span></b></span></div>

I honestly hadn’t thought of that aspect. So my response was, yes, she had a boob job, but most of the surgery was to hide her identity or to rebuild damaged parts of her body after her plane crash. I honestly don’t think Chase would have cared either way what she looked like. He was already in half smitten the moment he read her file and saw she had a 170 IQ and knew all those languages.</span></b></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There is a really unusual relationship among the three main characters that I love. <div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Actually, yes, I knew where Jake’s book, <i><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Spy-Games-Lethal-Limits-ebook/dp/B009LTBZXM/ref=sr_1_5?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1350308364&sr=1-5&keywords=mia+downing">Lethal Limits</a></i> was going for the most part (Jake’s one trait he feels is an asset but Chase hates is that Jake is impulsive. You’ll see in his book.) One of my goals for TFS was to see if I could write a ménage, and the only way I could envision myself entertaining one is if I loved the two men fiercely, as Kate loves Chase and Jake. I also have a hard time believing anyone being that close isn’t going to suffer some sort of repercussions from the arrangement despite how close the two guys are. I’m sure there are people that live that lifestyle and it works for them, but all relationships take work. Jake’s book is about repercussions. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">While I was writing TFS, the first vision I had for Jake’s book was him bound to a bed, gagged and being tortured in a sinfully decadent way by a black-haired beauty. Of course I had to know who she was, and why she needed to tie Jake up. He’s a man whore. Usually you don’t need to tie them up, right? So I was intrigued. </span></b></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Why did you give both Chase and Kate their split personalities? (Chase/boss; Kate/Emma) Were these characters this way from the beginnings of your imagination or was it something that came from a need to show their inner conflicts?</span></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Living a double identity as a spy would mean you have many identities because you can’t say, “Hey, I’m a spy,” to the ones you love without consequences. Kate was easy to give dual personalities since she was forced to evolve from one persona—innocent, shy and soft as Emma, to become Kate—hard, kick-ass and worldly. It was interesting to see her grow as a character and become more confident in bed and out and how at times she warred with the more innocent side of her. </span></b></span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Chase’s split personality evolved more in the second rewrite. When I signed the contract for TFS it was 63,000 words, which is just under the length requirement for getting a print book. I thought there was no way I could add to it, but after writing Jake’s book (Lethal Limits) I had a much better understanding of Chase and who he is because I got to craft him from a totally different point of view. I went back in and deepened his inner conflict and made him struggle a bit more with both sides of himself. </span></b></span></div>

<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I think how the characters see/interact with Chase is one of the aspects I loved about writing this series. All of the main characters have a relationship with Chase, and they all see him differently. Tia, Jake’s heroine, is terrified of him. Charlotte worships the ground he walks on until her book, when she begins to see him more as a man than an entity. Aaron, Charlotte’s hero, is at first a little intimidated by Chase but as he becomes comfortable with his more dominant skin he stands up to Chase. And of course, both Jake and Kate love him unconditionally, despite the fact that his dominance crosses many boundaries. </span></b></span></div>

Really. The first draft of the book had Chase falling just like Kate, but when I hit his discussion with his uncle, I realized he had to love her enough to come up with a different plan or the book would end with her dead and him alone. So once he fell for her, his conflict actually became deeper and more complex, I think. There's also a year's time that passes between when he meets her and when he becomes her boss. Though it's not shown on the page, he's had time to know more about her through following her training and also listening to Jake talk about her constantly. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Emma Walters didn't choose to be a spy, but when her crazy father was caught selling bombs to the wrong people, she was given a choice--become a spy or rot in jail. Her exciting new life as agent Kate Wells becomes more so when she discovers her new boss is the agent--undercover and investigating her father at the time--who took her to third base. Emma is already half in love with the dark and dangerous Chase Sanders. Kate wants nothing more than for him to finish what he started, but he's the devil incarnate. And one doesn't make deals or fall in love with the devil.<br /><br />If someone had told Chase he'd fall in love with a certain virgin when he was on his last mission, he would have shot them dead, sniper style. She was nothing more than collateral damage, damn it. But watching the sexy new spy morph into a bombshell killing machine is too much to bear. So when the powers that be command him to train her in the art of seduction for her first--and possibly last--mission, he's scared witless. Making love to Kate means preparing her for sex with another man.<br /><br />Somehow, Chase has to find a way to get Kate in--and out--of her mission without dying. And without falling in love.</span></div>
