So, let's get started!!

I'd like to know what you thought before you actually opened the book

In other words

Did you judge a book by it's cover, title, description etc?

and

How did it measure up?

Did it meet or exceed your expectations?

How did it surpise you?

Disapppoint you?

I guess I'll go first...This was the first book I bought for my NookColor and basically I only bought it because it was 99cents and I wanted to figure out how to work it.No LIE. Both my boys and husband are Zombie freaks so I figured if nothing else, one of them might want to read it.
WOW..was I surprised..I was hooked from the first sentence...actually the first six words.."This is how the world ends..." and I proceeded to read it all within a Sunday afternoon, then my 15yo read it, then my 12yo read it....
Was it Gory? Yes. Violent? definitely. BUT SO incredibly original...and I just loved that about it. I can say I really did not expect to want to read it, or like it, so it completely exceeded all of my expectations. I was surprised by a heroine who didn't take a backseat to the "boys" and took care of everyone and everything her path, kicking butt along the way. If I was disappointed it was that it ended with such a cliffhanger leaving you dying for more!!

Before I start I wanted to say I have watched a lot and I mean a LOT of movies like this, this was nothing like any of them! I had to download this, my firt ever book I downloaded and now think that I have gotten back into reading I need a kindle, lol! I did judge it by it's cover and thought it looked a bit teen like if that makes sense? But Kristy on the Chick-Lits is my BBF and she really spoke it up, so I had to read it. It took me all of 2 days I think. The thing I loved about this was that it started BAM straight into it, didn't waste time. There were so many things in it that I never saw coming and the only thing I felt let down about was the ending but then I am a typical happy endings type of girl. So without giving too much away as I want to say so much more, but not sure if everyone has read it. I would definately would tell people to read it!

Well I always judge a book by its cover heheh. I really liked the cover and thought this looks like a cool book, but also highly doubted it as it is a book about zombies...and zombies so not my thing! But from the very first page I was hooked and very VERY suprised and how great a read this was WOW!! Loved it! I highly reccommend this book to everyone! Great pic Amy I love being suprised by a book, and challenged to reads something I normally wouldnt.

Thought I would let you know, Hollowland is back in stock at amazon in paperback but with the new cover. In case you want to make anyone else read it..LOL

Kellie, I 'm so happy you were so determined to read it that you did it on your laptop and loved it so much!
Like both of you I love it when a book surprised me!
I don't think I ever would have purposely set out to read a book with zombie's in it...but I'm so glad I read this one and can't wait to read more!

Surprised...no, but that is simply because I know how much you raved about it when you first read it, Amy, and you and I have really similar tastes. Would I have picked it up on my own? No, simply because zombies as a story line don't appeal to me no matter how good the book. That's what surprised me...how immersed I got into the story and how I am dying to read more zombies! I loved the adventure and just how tough she is...it was an incredible book!!

Honestly, I received the book in the mail (on lend from Christi) and it did meet my expectations of THAT cover. It was a heart with a bite taken out of it with dripping blood. From that I derived it would be young, slightly gory and bleak. It was all of those things.

I should clarify what I mean by "young." I meant trendy and hip with the lingo and whatnot. I just wanted to clarify that I didn't mean immature. :D

I read this book on my Kindle. I maybe glanced at the cover once when I added the book from Amazon, but I didn't pay a bit of attention to it at the time. I'm glad that I didn't really see it, so I could envision Remy in my own mind.. my own version of how she would look. The title was intriguing.. and once I found out it was about zombies.. I was IN.
I loved this book. I didn't think that I would. It surprised me by actually having a very inticing storyline that kept my attention from the beginning. Can't wait to read the next in the series. Hurry up Amanda Hocking! :)
