I don't think there's anything as a perfect society. I think no matter what there will be people who think it's unfair and will want change. I don't think that any amount of "perfection" that can be offered is worth giving up free will. I don't think those kinds of governments will ever work out.
1. Obviously The Society is too controlling and involved in too many facets of the citizens lives. Also, the lengths they will go to maintain control are inconceivable.
2.I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect society. In the book, The Society tries to achieve perfection through control. There is peace and order, but there isn't joy in the the lives of the citizens. Trees are cut down for no good reason and the residents can't even sleep in peace. They eat what they are told, but miss out on the simple joys in life. So while everyone is "equal" (except the aberrations) no one is really happy.
I completely agree with both of you. Everyone's version of perfection is different, so for me there is no such thing as a perfect Society. Just because everything is controlled and equal, does not mean it's perfect. Free will is so much more important to me.
