Discussion #1: Succubus Blues- Monogamy?

Whoohoo!
We are finally ready to discuss Succubus Blues.
I hope that you all are ready because I have a whole slew of topics to discuss!! ;o)

Our first discussion is about monogamy...

The opening scene in this book definitely sets the tone for the fact that Georgina needs sex to survive. She has sex with a virgin and steals his soul.

I know that most of us are romance readers (vs. Urban Fantasy which is the genre of this novel) and we are used to monogamous heroes and heroines. How did you feel about Georgina's hook-ups and her being a succubus?

Hey is my first time in a book club, so if I make any mistake let me know.

I'm used to read paranormal romance, so Georgie be a succubus is nothing compared to what I've read before. And I quite liked how she fells about what she has to do to continue with the life she commited to have.

Every choice comes with consequences right?

Taking in consideration this is a book, I'm okay with her life style even know she is strugling with it, and hope she gets a new chance with Seth.

I guess that's it.

Yay, Psique! I am so glad that you are joining us!!!

I like your insight. I guess the only hook-up that really bothered me was when she had sex with the bookstore owner. That seemed really creepy to me.

For me, I was surprised that it didn't bother me more. I think that this is the first book that I have ever read where the heroine slept around. For me, I don't think that it's something that I would be comfortable reading, but in this book it didn't bother me. Another plus to Richelle's incredible skill at writing.

I just finished this book last night and then spent all day in the car, so I think I finally had time to digest it. :)

I wasn't bothered by Georgie's hook ups at all. The only creepy one was the first one, because I kept picturing this sweaty, smelly, gross guy getting it on with her. LOL The hook ups with the boss/owner wasn't creepy for me, since he was "morally corrupt" to begin with and she used him to feed her power. I wasn't looking forward to more guys, but it didn't seem like a lot to me, knowing she was a succubus.

I did find the fact that she loathed being a succubus endearing. It made me like her a little bit more.

I think what really bothered me about her hooking up with Warren is that he was someone that she knows and sees on a regular basis. Later in the books, she talks about the fact that she likes to use a different persona when she has hook-ups and that seems more acceptable to me....I know, I am weird.

Yep, I agree with you ladies! I wasn't crazy about the idea, but the fact that she hates being a succubus and only does it when absolutely necessary, and never with someone she cares about, really made me love her. I didn't find her relationship with Warren too creepy, he's a jerk and I'd rather her use him than a good guy, haha!

First, huge welcome to Psique and Kim!!!! YAY for new Chicks!!!

Second, I haven't read the book. I'm really behind on reading and I'm hoping to start it soon. Hopefully, I can catch up on the convo.

I didn't feel offended or disagree with Georgina's sleeping around or hooking up... I just accepted that was part of being a succubus.

Personally that sounds totally gross and I would never want to be a succubus having sex with some random guy to fuel my power... I will supply my own power, thank you very much.. LOL...:)

Ok I'm a little more than halfway, sorry..BUT..welcome new Chicks! and I think I can weigh in on this one at least. The hook ups don't bother me, it's what she has to do to survivie. The fact that she picks smarmy guys to do it with (so far for me anyway since I'm done) kind of endears me to her more in some kind of crazy way, because she doesn't want to hurt someone "good".
