Cinder Discussion: Question #1

First off, I want to apologize for not giving this book club the attention it deserves! The past couple months weren't very organized, but I think everyone has been busy. But you're probably READY to start discussing Cinder by now, aren't you?;)

Cinder: Book One in the Lunar Chronicles

I have a confession. I just started the book today, lol! My mom has been visiting and just left yesterday so I'm hoping to finish it this weekend! But I thought I could come up with something generic to get us going for the first couple days.

Question #1: What was your FIRST thought when you read the synopsis of this book? A cyborg Cinderella? Get outta here!

I know for me, I am a SUCKER for my Disney Princesses:) I just knew, as soon as I saw the cover of this book, that this would be an amazing story! I'm not too far into it yet, but the very idea of a cyborg Cinderalla-mechanic has me wanting to do NOTHING but read! I can't wait to see where this story goes. I hear it's the FIRST in a SERIES! YAY!

I love, love, love the idea of modified fairy tales! I think that Marissa Meyer did an amazing job of sticking to the original fairy tale, but making it her own story. She's just an amazing story teller.

Has anyone read any of Kristine Grayson's stuff? She also modifies the original fairy tales to make her own stories. I have never read any of them yet, but I have several on my Kindle.

I hope that you girls like this one as much as I did! LOVED it! Although, I will admit it took me a while to become immersed in the story...

I am SO glad to be part of this book club... it definitely pushes me out of my comfort zone for choosing new books to read. I probably would have passed this one by if it wasn't this month's read.
I am currently starting Chapter 27 (66%) done... and LOVING it!
Like Christi, it took awhile for me to really get into the storyline.. but now I'm hooked. Can't wait to see what happens. Really enjoying Cinder as a character. I don't want to give anything away.. so that's it for now.
On a side note, I saw that Cinder is in this month's Scholastic Book Club order form that my 5th grader brought home. I think my son will enjoy reading it when I am done. (I also want to finish it first to see what happens and that it continues to be appropriate for an 11 yr old.):)

Honestly, I went into his book prepared to not like it. I do like fairy tales with a twist, the the sci fi aspect turned me off. It did take a few chapters for it to grab my attention, but after that I was sucked in! I can't tell you how much I really liked it and can't wait for more.

The whole cyborg thing turned me off at first which is odd because I watch Sci-Fi TV and movies with my hubby all the time. However, once I started reading I really enjoyed it. Especially the whole overcoming adversity part, I love that.

my first thought was that I didn't understand what that meant. I read a lot of science fiction/fantasy and it is rare that I read about cyborgs.
