The Edge of Never...Discussion #2

I'm so excited to get to post a discussion question!!!

Discussion Question #2...

Hi, I'm Mia, and I want to ask what everyone thought of the point  of view alternating from Cam's to Andrew's throughout the story? Do you feel it enhanced or distracted from their journey?

That's all! I can't wait to hear what you think.

Since it's my question, I'll answer! I hated it at first. I'm not a fan of first person, so when it switched to Andrew it felt abrupt and I actually had to take a break from the book out of disappointment.

However, Andrew's voice grew on me quickly and I loved his insight to the journey. I think I would have loved it more if it were the more popular third person approach, but the story wouldn't have been the same without Andrew's say.

At first, it was annoying and confusing for me. I'm really not a fan of 1st person but I put up with it for a good YA story. I did grow to really like Andrew's POV and think the story would not have been as good without knowing what he was thinking.

I felt it absolutely enhanced the storyline. At first, I wasn't sure that I would like it. Sometimes changing back and forth doesn't flow and feels wrong in a book. I think by showing each of their perspectives of various events, the reader learned a lot about Andrew and Cam and how they perceived what was going on. Some of the reasons Andrew did what he did made me fall for him that much more. Getting a view of 'behind the scenes', what each person was feeling or thinking definitely added to the journey.

It was confusing at first, but then as the story went on, loved seeing the other perspective.

I really hate first person, just because you never get to see the story from anyone else, so I LOVED that it switched. I even talked about it in my review, which will go up Christmas day. Great question!

I think when it really hit home for me how important it could be is when we realize there could be potential issues on the bus, and he was being heroic...I fell for him right there and then. He truly was a great hero in many senses.

I love the alternate points of view, it's so fun to look into Cam's mind, and then jump into Andrew's and see what the man is thinking (I always wonder what's going on in their minds! HA!)

It confused me at the start, but as I kept reading I started to love it and look forward to it switching.
