No January Book...obvivously, lol!

Hey Chicklets! So, obviously we're not going to have a book for January. It's been a busy month for everyone, I think! I'm getting a schedule together today, but I'll be the hostess for February and I've chosen Cinder for our group read:

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1)

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

Okay I know it sounds different, but I've been wanting to read this book since the minute I saw this cover! And a cyborg-Cinderella? Sounds too interesting to pass up, lol! Here's the link the the Goodreads page for this book, if you like to read reviews first!

Go grab your copy and be ready for discussion around the middle of February!!

2. Which character would you most want to meet?

3. Why are Frederick Thiessen and the reverurs important to the story?

4. Why do you think some people were so entranced by the circus that

The Night Circus- Discussion #1

THE NIGHT CIRCUS...
Time for some TALK about what you thought...

1. The Night Circus is not written in a linear timeline..
Did you find the structure of the book disorienting?
Do you think it was effective in mirroring the nature of the circus
or did it just annoy you?

2. The novel frequently changes narrative perspective.
How does this transition shape your reading of the novel
and your connection to the characters?
Why do you think the author chose to tell the story
from varied perspectives?

3. The novel opens with a quote from Oscar Wilde...

A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight,
and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.

What are your thoughts on this quote and why the author chose it?
Who was a dreamer in this story?
and what is their punishment for being so?

December Book: The Night Circus

Hi, everyone!
I am so sorry for the late notice on this, but our book this month is....
Brooke will be leading our discussions this month.
This book has gotten some serious buzz around the book world so it should be a fun one!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Story Overview:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des RĂªves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

Angel's Blood Discussion #2

Elena has a lot of internal struggle in this book

Fighting her attraction to Raphael

and even Dimitri

Asserting herself as a hunter to be reckoned with

her memories of her childhood and struggles with her father

(this storyline develops so well in the next two books)

What do you think of her struggles and how she handles them?

How do you feel about Elena as a character?

Do you think she's strong enough to hold her own with Raphael?
