Kiss of Midnight-Discussion #1

Hey Chick-lits and friends! Sorry the discussion is starting so late, I have a few things going on here on the home front;)

I realize some of you may not be finished yet, so I want to start out discussing things we've all read by now to minimize spoilage;)

Let's discuss the mythology behind the Vampires existence in this book/series. What do you think of the origins of the Vampire species, as described in Kiss of Midnight? The Vampires (even though that's not what they called themselves, that's what they essentially were) crash-landed on earth many many years ago. Their digestive systems were far too advanced to survive on human food/plants and therefore had to survive off of human blood, the only thing they could find with the proper nutrients to sustain them. Did you find these origins more or less "believable" than some mutant race bent on the slaughter of mankind, drinking blood to humor themselves?? Also, wasn't it interesting that these ancient Vampires were supposedly responsible for all the missing civilizations of times past, like Atlantis and the Mayans?

LOL...this was one of those little things that bugged me about this book, although it really is highly original. It's bad enough to tell someone (like dh) that you are reading a book about vampires, but add aliens-as-vampires into the mix and it sounds like a bad B-movie. ;o)

LOL! Christi! :)
I am the most open minded person ever... so I didn't have a problem with the alien origin(considering I KNOW this is fiction)

I did however, pause while reading and stop to think about their Ancient ancestors being the reason for the missing civilizations... that was a great detail added in!

Haha, Christi I wouldn't bring it to DH that you're reading Vampire Alien books, but maybe tell him that in this book, they're really just an alien, renamed vampires, lol! Men generally have an easier time getting through an alien story than they do a vampire story, bwahah!

Actually, I thought it was fascinating! I really liked that idea, particularly when the missing civilizations were brought in. I thought it was a very clever way to explain both, while also giving a reason for why these vampires were not exactly the way most mythology treats them.

Ok, I have to say the alien thing kind of threw me off too...I guess I didn't think it was a necessary element to the story..kind of like "and Oh btw were also aliens" kind of thing..LOL...but I still liked the book :)

It doesn't bother me either way. I welcome different interpretations of myth. At least the author was creative. :) I did love the tidbit about Atlantis and the Mayans though, I thought it was clever.

It was great to have a different interpretation of a vampire...however I did not like the "Alien" Idea! LOL.

Hi all, I am a friend of Kristy's have not read a book since mmmm Twilight and all the rest, but after her raving about it I had to read, and am almost done after only starting on Friday afternoon and LOVE it! I have to admit like Kristy I am not liking the Alien idea, when I read that I was like mmmmm ok, different and odd. While it's the same in more than one vampire theme book/movie. I always love the idea of starting back in the olden days etc.
