Kiss of Midnight -- Discussion #3

I want to talk about our our fearless heroine today! We were talking in the previous thread about how Gabrielle followed her instincts to rogue lairs and vampire shelters without knowing why. She thought the photos she took were interesting pieces of art, which they no doubt were! I sort of wish there were pictures in this book, I'd love to see her photos!
Do you think it was foolish of her to leave after she let Lucan drink from her? He was upset with himself, having thought he'd killed her because of his bloodlust. She mistakes his anger for not wanting her there and leaves the compound to go back home, to where she thought she "belonged". With all she knew about vampires, rogues, and minions, was she silly to leave the safety of the compound? What would you have done?

YES!!! very silly, I was yelling out load saying no Gabrielle, go back...hubby looked at me like i was nuts LOL.
But in saying that..I understand why she did it, she thought he didnt like her or want to be near her.

I totally agree with Kristy on this. It was very silly of her to do of course (knowing what we know, reading the book) but at the same time you can totally understand why she did it...!

that silly girl! I would NEVER leave Lucan or the compound... EVER... ha! just kidding. :) Actually I can see how she misunderstood him, as he wasn't very clear on expressing just why he was upset. As you said, she was mistaken.. thinking he didn't want her there. I would have probably done the same thing if put in her situation, regardless of the danger that she/I would face outside the compound without his protection.

I agree with everyone here...she didn't have the benefit of knowing what we did that Lucan loved her but wasn't ready to acknowledge that in himself yet..I think she had to leave in order for him to come to terms with that...I loved the independence of her character

Yeah I think that's one of the things that annoy be about books like this. I know it wouldn't be a story if they came right out and declared their undying love, but it annoys me, that man PMS thing so many heros have, lol!

Oh my gosh! It was like watching a horror movie where the girl locks herself into the closet with the murderer! I was just so annoyed that she could be so dumb! No matter how someone makes you feel, how could you risk your life like that?

I probably would have just moved into my own room and waited a while. I'd like to think that I don't make rash decisions.

On another topic, I went to look at next month's book and it's only available on E-reader on Amazon which I don't have. Does anyone know where to buy a paperback copy?

I agree with everything you said Ashley. I can't imagine being so upset to the point where I would risk my life like that, but Lucan was an idiot not to consider how she would feel when he left her like that.

I have a hardback of it that I bought on Amazon, but you're right, Ash, it doesn't look like it's available anymore. Amanda Hocking just signed a HUGE book deal so I bet there has been a run on her books. Let me read it this weekend and then I will send you my copy (if you can promise to send it back to me...) Email me your address... snowchris_01@yahoo.com

I do agree that Lucan should have come to her sooner to make sure he was ok after their last interaction. I understand that when someone feels so deeply hurt, you can push those risks aside to just run from the situation. While I thought it was dumb on her part, I didn't find it unrealistic.

I'm excited for the Amanda Hocking book! My local friends are reading My Blood Approves and they really like it. I haven't read them yet. I think I'll try to obtain a copy on my own, looks like they are trying to get it ready to be released again?

If they aren't able to do that in time, Christi, I might just have to take you up on that! I would just HATE if something happened to your book on the way here or worse yet at the hands of my CRAZY kids. Dustin is thinking about getting the new iPad so I might be able to weasel it away from him long enough to read the book digital so I have options. :)

Ashley do you have a Nook or Kindle? A few weeks ago I downloaded all four of the My Blood Approves books for like 99 cents each on B&N! I haven't checked Amazon for the Kindle but they're usually the same price...

I am able to lend Hollowland on my Kindle if needed (it is probably still free? I don't know) my sister in law just had it.. it gives you a 2 week window to read it.

I don't have any kind of eReader and Dustin sold his iPad so I have no idea what I'm going to do. Ack!

Ash, I can be done with it and send it to you by Thursday...no worries. I understand if something happens to it...I have kids too! ;o) smiles...

I was actually half expecting to then read when he realises he loves her that he would turn and go back to let her know or see she is ok, the romantic in me I guess, hehe! I didn't like that she left, I was thinking you silly girl, but at the same time I can see why she did and it made the story that more interesting!

I understood why she did it, but at the same time I wanted to just slap her upside the head for being stupid. She *knew* what was out there and why she needed to be protected, but she went out there anyway like an airhead. Lucan, on the other hand, was just pulling alpha male BS, and needed his own clue-by-4, which her leaving provided.
