Let's Talk Authors!

Hello everyone! Is everyone getting their copies of Goodnight Tweetheart? A few of us have read it already and we are chomping at the bit to get to talking about it....it is soooo good!!! I cannot wait to start really discussing it!

Speaking of waiting...we are getting close to having a new blog design here. Amber has been working behind the scenes with a designer. She is thinking that we will have a new look this week! I can't wait to see it!

So today let's talk authors. We all have our favorite ones!! First I need you to name ONE author who you buy regardless of what they release. I think that we all have one of those...it doesn't matter what the storyline is, you are going to buy that author's book. For this part of the question, I want you to list just a single author and tell us what it is about their writing that you love so much.

THEN, you can go on and wax poetic about as many other authors that you love as you would like to discuss. I think that we can have some fun discussions and all find some new authors today.

BTW, when you comment, you can check a box at the bottom of the comment box so that you receive all the comments from this blog post via your email. This is a GREAT way to keep track of how everyone responds!

Get chatting girls!

Okay, I was going to let someone else go first, but you all aren't talking...yet! LOL!

Right now I probably only have one author that I can say absolutely positively I would buy everything she comes out with...no questions asked.

And that is Kristan Higgins.

I just discovered her last year and she only has 6 books out right now, but OMG, they are soooo good! She writes contemporary romances and they are so full of fun and honesty. Her characters are amazing and I have NEVER had so many LOL moments as I do when reading her books. Read them....I promise you will LOVE THEM!!!

Other faves...Suzanne Brockmann (she probably would be second choice as favorite author...also a new discovery, but I haven't had a chance to read everything that she's written yet so I can't say I would buy absolutely everything she writes.) She writes military romance series'...OMG...so good!!!

JR Ward...as if there was any doubt here, but I haven't read her Jessica Bird stuff yet. Has anyone else?

Sherrilyn Kenyon...another AMAZING vampire series...LOVE these!!

Cindy Gerard...military romance

Stephanie Tyler...really in depth...deep military romance.

Larissa Ione...AWESOME paranormal writer! She used to be USAF too...awacs...weather girl! Now spouse to Coast Guard dh. I would love to just live in her creative mind!!

Victoria Dahl...another great, funny contemporary writer.

That's all I can think of right now, but I know if I go look at my book cabinet, I would come back with another dozen or so, so I reserve the right to list more. ;o)

For sure, no doubt the author that I buy regardless of what the book's about is Kristen Hannah. She is my very favorite author and I wish she'd write faster ;)
Then I'd have to say the day Stephanie Meyer comes out with the rest of Midnight Sun I will first cry for joy and then RUSH to amazon.com and download it!
My 1st fave author has to be Judy Blume...and I had to sneak those, my mom did not like them at all, then I graduated to Danielle Steele books, though I haven't bought one in about 5 years by her, I must have graduated from them...
I like Mary Higgins Clark, they are super fast to read and always intriguing, my daughter Rachel loves her, too.
Right now I am really enjoying JR Ward's books. I've just discovered her in the last 2 months or so.
I also have to say that I can only read 1 book at a time, I like to give all my attention to one story, I am definitely not focused enough to juggle stories!

So, back in the day (like 2 years ago) I would read anything Nicolas Sparks, Sophie Kinsella, Amy Tan. But now that I'm into romance, all the old stuff seems boring.

Right now, I'd by anything JR Ward. I haven't read her Jessica Bird stuff though, maybe I should start on that. I just really enjoy all the Black Dagger Brotherhood books and the fallen angel books as well. I think the characters are really well developed. I find that she writes an amazing tortured character. And her thoughts on love are very profound, not what I would expect from a romance novel.

Now, I have to tell you that I just got introduced into the world of romance last year by our friend AMY. I won a book off her review blog and it was SO spicy. I just fell in love with the genre and my hubby enjoys reaping the benefits. The author that introduced me to romance was Lilly Fiesty. She's AMAZING! Her books are STEAMY! I've only read the two that are in print but I believe she has some that are available for digi readers. Her character development is also fabulous.

That's it for me right now. I've dabbled a little here and there but I'm not completely in love with any other authors. I liked the Larissa Ione book I read (saw it on Christi's blog) but I'm not sure I care enough about the other characters to keep going with the series but we'll see.

I read a Maya Banks book but I felt like it was unbalanced, one half the book working on the plot another half with just steamy bedroom scenes. I think I like when the romance is woven into the story because I kept waiting and waiting for it then when it happened I was thinking "is it OVER yet?"

So, right now I'm just in between books.

Eeek! A new book blog/club! I'm so excited :)
My absolute must have on anything that he does is Richard Paul Evans! Once you read his first book, The Christmas Box, you just know! It's like 'love at first sight'! Every book he has written has touched me in some way, shape and form! I neeed to get his latest one asap! Another one of his that are my faves is The Last Promise...
Other must-have writers... Nicholas Sparks, Stephanie Meyer, JK Rowling and a YA newbie Lauren Kate. Yes, ever since Twilight I've been addicted to YA, lol!
Right now I just finished reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, so not YA, hee hee! and now I'm on the hunt for my next series!
Thanks for doing this! I look forward to seeing more!
hugs, margie

Hey Margie! We're glad to have you! I'm super excited about all the books we'll all read together:)

I noticed you mentioned Lauren Kate, I read "Torment" and absolutely loved it! I already downloaded "Fallen" and want to read that one soon, it's a great series! I agree with you that alot of books marketed for "YA" are NOT YA material, lol! They sure are MY material though, ha!

My all time favorite author is J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) and her "In Death" series. It's a futuristic police drama series with my absolute favorite characters EVER! I seriously want to climb into their world everytime I read the books! There are a kazillion books in that series, too!

Another favorite is James Patterson. I love EVERYTHING he writes but mostly love his Alex Cross novels.

I also love John Sanford, he writes really riveting murder mysteries as well, his main character is Lucas Davenport.

Most of my reads have always been the murder mystery/FBI/Cop stories. I just love to get in there and try to solve the mystery before the end, but never do, lol! I would SO not make a good detective, ha!

Like most of us (I have a feeling), after reading Twilight I ventured further into the paranormal realm and I'm hopelessly addicted. I think Twilight is like a gateway drug, bwahah! It's a nice sweet story that drags you into more dangerous and seductive books:)

I don't think I'll EVER get tired of Vampire books but I'm looking forward to seeing where else the genre goes!

Welcome Margie! There are actually 2 (sorry Christi LOL) Nora Roberts (just Nora not JD) I have bought faithfull since I cracked open my first one about, wow, 13 years ago to the point where I hunted all of her out of print titles on ebay from back when she was writing for harlequin in the early 80's. I actually paid $25 for one of the really rare ones, but this was before they started re releasing all of her early works. I would then read them and then relist on ebay to recoup my money..LOL...I have read every single title she's written...there's somewhere around 200 here is the complete list, but it's missing some of her most recent..http://bestsellers.about.com/od/bookfilmlistsbyauthor/a/roberts_list.htm..If you go back and read some, you'll find that she touched on paranormal before it was even really a genre...If her name is on it, I take out my wallet.
The other is Linda Howard, if you haven't read anything by her, try this one first Mr. Perfect..then go check out the rest...I did the same thing with her I did with NR, chasing down every title I could find..you can find a list here http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/h/linda-howard/ Her books are heavy on suspense ( a lot of them have a military slant, Christi LOL)..
Some others
I just started BDB JR Ward and am liking them
Karen Marie Moning-I've loved everything she's written, she just doesn't write fast enough
Kristan Higgins (thanks again Christi)
Meryl Saywer
Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Sherrily Kenyon
Sharon Sala
Jennifer Crusie
Charlaine Harris (I had to get used to her, but I really like her)
there are a lot of YA that I like too...Amber I loved Lauren Kate's Fallen/Torment
Becca Fitzpatrick Hush Hush/Crescendo
Melissa Mars Wicked Lovely
Amanda Hocking Hollowland
I know I'm missing a ton..but this is probably long enough!

First off, I am a classics girl: F. Scott Fitzgerald, Mark Twain, and Jane Austen are me faves. I also love anything by James Michener and Tom Clancy.

For current authors, I'll read anything by David Baldacci (cop/mystery/suspense). They always keep me hanging on the edge of my seat!

I also like Kristin Hannah, Stephen J Cannell, and Sue Grafton.

And now for my big confession: I haven't read the Twilight series! I know, I know~I can hear your squeals of shock and surprise! LOL They just haven't grabbed me, kwim?

The one author I would buy no matter what is Sophie Kensella-she wrote the Confessions of a Shopaholic series, Twenties Girl

just to name a few....the authors I enjoy reading:
Nicolas Sparks
Kim Gruenenfelder
Nora Roberts
Jennifer Weiner
Charlaine Harris
Stephanie Meyer-hope she decides to finish Midnight Sun

I just finished a 3-book series by Shelly Laurenston, first one called Pack Challenge: Magnus Pack, Book 1. The books contain graphic language & explicit sex. But what I enjoyed most was the relationship between the 3 girlfriends in the stories. They tell each other like it is & no BS.

HP Mallory
the Jolie Wilkins Series
-this is fabulous paranormal romance with your reality check and humor to go along with it, kind of short but i loved it :)
(fire burn & cauldron bubble; toil and trouble; a tale of two goblins)
book 3 will be out before april, so i've heard

AND
Sophie Jordan
"Firelight"
this is young adult fiction and i fell in love with all the characters even though some were just plain rotten lol. i have never been left hanging so bad at the end of the book! definitely worth the purchase, re-reading and the wait for book 2-hopefully it will be here soon!

Sarabeth I have those HP Mallory books in my TBR pile! They look SO GOOD! I'm hoping they're like the Bewitching series I'm reading. With all the PR I've been reading, I wanted something light and fluffy and the Bewitching Mystery series by Madeline Alt is PERFECT! It's such a fun little series with really wonderful characters and of course a love triangle with two hotties, lol! I'm on book 3 and I think there are 6 or 7 of them...

i'm going to have to check those out amber- the are definitely a fun mystery kind of read :)
lol-what's a book without a love triangle these days :)
i love long series too so i'm on it!
thanks!
